It’s been a while since my last post, i’ve had some hard days at work and i’ve been busy with it, so there are some things to post about.

The merging time has gone
On December 13 it was the DebianImportFreeze so there are no more merges to do unless they are necessary for other program to work. Since merging was the task my mentor gave me i ask for a new one, but that’s another point…

I’m not a mentee anymore
When i ask for a new task my mentor says i have work with almost all the things i need to know, so for now on i only need a lot of practice to become a MOTU, so now i’m on my own working with bugs, making things to work better and going on my way to MOTU.

Finally i can dget from LP
One of the most uncomfortable parts of working on the development of the new version of ubuntu is that packages.ubuntu.com is not always up-to-date so it’s needed to download the source packages from LP, but as the files are managed in different subdirectories it was impossible to dget the source, so i need to download the files needed one by one by hand and that was kind of annoying. Now it has changed, i find it doing the same process, getting the URL of each file and then wget it (yes i hate GUI and love CLI, i’m kind of a Martian) and i notice it hasn’t the ugly format it has some days ago, then i try to dget it, and it works!!!

Packaging 101 talk
Last Saturday i gave a talk on “Packaging 101″ on the “1er Festival de Software Libre ‘UNACINUX’” and on the “Debian Day 2007″, it was kind of hard finishing the first one on time to go to the second, but i was really happy of the people, they where listening, making questions, writing down my e-mail to contact me and looking for me after the talk to ask some question or making some conversations about the FS development. But what surprise me more, was that on the first place they ask me to gave a little class on packaging for the Community that makes that event and on the second one i was asked to mentor a 15 years old that loves techie and computer stuff, so i will guide him to learn programming and enter to The Force and being away from the Dark Side. It was a really good day for me despite the hard part of going from one place to other (i have had to do more things apart of the talks). The slides are on Spanish if you want them, but i have promised dholbach i will translate it to English, i maybe do it this weekend, stay tunned.
